Powertek’s authorised share capital is RM400,000,000 comprising 400,000,000 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each and its issued paid-up share capital is RM230,000,000 comprising 230,000,000 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each.

Powertek was awarded its Independent Power Producer concession licence on 1 December 1993 for a period of 21 years by the Director General of Electricity Supply to build, own and operate TGPS 1, a 440 MW OCGT power plant at Telok Gong, Melaka.

TGPS 1 was constructed via a turnkey construction undertaken by the consortium of European Gas Turbine SA of France, Alsthom Export (M) Sdn Bhd and Zelleco Construction (M) Sdn Bhd. The construction was carried out on a "fast track" basis. Powertek commenced construction of TGPS 1 in January 1994 and achieved commercial operations of the first gas turbine on 14 January 1995.

TGPS 1 achieved full commercial operations on 18 June 1995.
