Powertek offers scholarships to deserving undergraduates pursuing degree programmes at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

Launched in 1997, the objective of the Powertek Scholarship Award (now known as “Tanjong Energy Scholarship Award”) is to ensure that there is a continuous supply of entry-level graduates to fill the needs of the nation, as well as to meet the Group's human resource needs.

The Tanjong Energy Scholarship Awards (“TESA”) programme, funded by Powertek, offers scholarships to bright and deserving young students to pursue their tertiary education in Malaysia.

The TESA programme consists of the Powertek Scholarship Awards for undergraduates of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Tanjong Scholarship Awards for studies at public universities in Malaysia. Both scholarships have since been renamed the TESA with effect from June 2011.

In order to qualify for the Powertek Scholarship Awards, applicants must have achieved excellent SPM examination results and are financially deserving. Applicants are required to submit an application form and undergo an evaluation process conducted by Powertek which includes one-to-one interviews and personal profile analysis.

The value of the scholarship is up to RM20,000 for each academic year. This amount covers the academic fees, accommodation, books and living allowances. Scholarship recipients are required to serve Powertek for a stipulated period upon completion of their studies.

The Tanjong Scholarship Awards programme, which was established in 2002, is open to financially needy and academically deserving Malaysian students to pursue full-time degree programmes in any discipline at public universities in Malaysia. To qualify, candidates must have obtained 4 principals with a minimum of 3As in their STPM examination, or minimum CGPA of 3.5 in their Matriculation programme. The value of each award is between RM8,000 and RM9,000 per academic year for the minimum period required to complete the course of study. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

 

In a continuous effort to contribute towards the community in which it operates, Powertek launched its inaugural Sokongan Didikan Powertek Programme on 20 October 2005. The support towards education through the Sokongan Didikan Powertek programme is two-pronged, with contribution for both selected pupils and schools.

The programme gives out aid, in cash and in kind, to selected primary schools and the students from the Telok Gong and Tanjong Kling communities in Melaka. Over the past six years, more than RM900,000 has been donated in the form of financial contribution and school materials, benefitting some 12,000 students and 18 schools in the communities in which the Group operate.

Besides Sokongan Didikan Powertek, the Group has also organised educational visits to Kuala Lumpur for children from selected orphanages in Melaka.

Besides Sokongan Didikan Programme, Powertek has also launched it organised educational visits "Excursion cum Education Day-Trip" Program to the city all the way from Melaka.

In 2005 selected children from the Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim / Miskin Al-Nuriah PAYASUM visited Petrosains, The Science Discovery Center KLCC. The children had informal science learning at Petrosains.

In 2006 selected children from Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Lelaki India Sri Ramakrisha Asram visited the Petrosains Sky-Bridge, followed by a trip to the AQUARIA, which houses almost 5,000 captivation and colorful marine life of over 150 different species from Malaysia and all around the world presented through a multi-sensory voyage of entertainment. The trip up to the Sky-Bridge enable the children to learn about the construction of the twin towers while enabling them to enjoy the breathtaking view of the KL skyline.

In 2007, a group of 42 youths from the Montfort Youth Centre, Melaka were invited to participate in a one day trip to Kuala Lumpur. The youths visited the Petronas Twin Towers Sky-Bridge and visited Petrosains, The Science Discovery Center KLCC which is certainly enjoyable and educational.
